Why the university-wide number misled you
Wharton is the hardest door at Penn, and Penn's published 5.4% blends Early Decision into it. A student admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences would not necessarily have been admitted to Wharton with the same file. The guide covers what Wharton reads differently: quantitative rigor, demonstrated commercial interest that is not a resume of internships, and the specific way the Penn-specific essay has to connect a student to Wharton rather than to Penn.
